Key takeaways
Melius is the best overall pick for social ad images. It's an agent driven tool that turns one brief into a full set of on-brand originals, choosing the right model for each job, and Magic Resize recomposes each image for feed, Stories and other shapes instead of cropping it.
ChatGPT Images is the strongest single model for ads with a headline built into the image, and Google's Gemini is best for photoreal lifestyle and product scenes.
Ideogram leads for typography-heavy posters and promos, and Recraft for flat and illustrated ads in a brand palette.
TikTok and Pinterest have their own built-in image tools, but each only makes ads for its own platform.
Every platform wants a different shape: 4:5 for Meta feeds, 9:16 for Stories, 2:3 for Pinterest. Make a version for each rather than cropping one image.
How we ranked
A good social ad image has to work at phone size, in the shape each platform wants, without its text or logo landing under the app's buttons. We ranked tools on image quality for ads, how legible their text is, how well they hold a brand's colors and style, whether they cover every placement you need and how quickly a single idea becomes a set of platform-ready images. Prices come from each vendor's pricing page as of October 12, 2026.

1. Melius - Best overall for on-brand sets across platforms
Melius is an agentic image and video generation tool for creators, brands, marketers and e-commerce teams. Brief Mel, its agent, and it lays the job out as connected nodes on a canvas, picking the models, writing the prompts and running the generations, and every node stays editable so you direct each image.
What works: One brief produces a full campaign of original images. Mel picks the model for each job from more than 100, such as GPT Image for ads with headlines and Nano Banana Pro for photoreal scenes, and a brand anchor, a node holding your palette, type and rules, feeds every image so the set stays on brand. A node can generate up to 10 variations at once to test different concepts, and Magic Resize recomposes each finished image for 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and other ratios, so a feed ad and a Story each get their own framing. Duplicating the workflow with a new product or offer reruns every step for the next campaign.
What doesn't: Melius does not publish to Meta, TikTok, Pinterest or LinkedIn, so you download the images and upload them yourself, and there's no built-in safe-zone overlay to check Story placements.
Best for: Brands and marketers producing ad images across several platforms who want consistency and control.
2. ChatGPT Images - Best for ads with headline text in the image
ChatGPT makes and edits images with OpenAI's models, with Images 2.5 rolling out to all tiers in September 2026.
What works: It's strong at putting legible headlines and offers inside an image, and you can refine an ad in conversation. OpenAI says Images 2.5 edits only what you ask for and stays closer to reference images. Through the API, sizes can run from 1:3 to 3:1, which covers 4:5, 9:16 and 2:3. Go costs $8 a month and Plus $20.
What doesn't: OpenAI's own guide says text placement and clarity can still slip, and there's no brand kit or batch resizing, so one chat thread doesn't scale to a full campaign.
Best for: Small teams making a few ads with copy built into the image.
3. Google Gemini - Best for photoreal lifestyle and product scenes
Google's Nano Banana image models run in the Gemini app and API, and Nano Banana 2.1 became generally available in the API on October 6, 2026, with better text and prompt following.
What works: It produces convincing lifestyle and product-in-scene images and follows a style brief closely, and Nano Banana 2.1 accepts up to 14 reference images. Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month, the cheapest paid entry here.
What doesn't: Small text is weaker than on text-focused models. Images carry a visible watermark unless you're on a plan that removes it, which may mean the top tier for ads, and Google's SynthID watermark always remains.
Best for: Product and lifestyle ads where the photo does the selling.
4. Ideogram - Best for typography-led and poster-style ads
Ideogram is an image generator built around accurate text, now on its 4.5 model.
What works: It handles headlines, promo graphics and quote-card ads with clean type, and its Precise edit mode changes one detail while copying the rest of the image exactly. Ideogram 4.5 takes up to five reference images. Plus costs $20 a month, or $15 billed yearly.
What doesn't: Free generations are public, batch generation is only on Pro and there are no brand kits or platform presets.
Best for: Sales, launch and event ads where the words carry the message.
5. Recraft - Best for flat and illustrated ads in a brand palette
Recraft is a design-focused AI tool centered on brand styles and vectors.
What works: Custom color palettes and saved styles keep illustrated and flat-design ads on brand, it can generate up to 20 images at once and paid plans add models such as GPT Image, Nano Banana and Flux, with commercial rights and private generations. Basic costs $12 a month, or $10 billed yearly.
What doesn't: The free plan's images are public and not licensed for commercial use, it's less suited to photo-style ads and there are no safe-zone tools.
Best for: Brands with an illustrated or graphic look.
6. Predis.ai - Best for templates, a brand kit and scheduling together
Predis.ai is a social-first AI content and ad generator with a built-in scheduler.
What works: It creates ads sized for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Pinterest, applies a brand kit with your colors, tone and logo, generates variants in bulk and researches competitors' ads, in more than 19 languages. Core costs $24 a month.
What doesn't: The output can look templated, automatic posting starts on the higher Rise plan and there's no free plan, with a three-day trial that needs a card.
Best for: Small teams that want to create and schedule social content in one place.
7. TikTok Symphony Creative Studio - Best for images inside TikTok's ad tools
Symphony Creative Studio is TikTok's generative studio for advertisers.
What works: Its image generation turns product images into ad visuals from a text prompt or template, using up to four reference images, and you can download the results, sync them to Ads Manager or use them as a starting point for video. It's included with a TikTok for Business account.
What doesn't: It makes images for TikTok only, every output goes through moderation before it can run and it works on desktop only.
Best for: Brands advertising on TikTok that want images built in the same place as their campaigns.
8. Pinterest Performance+ creative - Best for lifestyle backgrounds on product Pins
Performance+ creative is Pinterest's built-in creative AI in Ads Manager.
What works: It generates backgrounds that place eligible product images in lifestyle scenes or plain colors and resizes images automatically, and at Cannes 2026 Pinterest announced a model that picks the best version for each impression. There's no separate fee.
What doesn't: It works only on Pinterest, only for Sales campaigns and only with eligible product images.
Best for: Retailers advertising products on Pinterest.
How to make social media ad images with AI
Make a version for each shape. Meta recommends 4:5 at 1440 by 1800 pixels for feeds and 9:16 at 1440 by 2560 for Stories, Pinterest 2:3 at 1000 by 1500, and LinkedIn 1200 by 628 or 1200 by 1200.
Keep the top 14%, bottom 35% and about 6% of each side of a Story free of text and logos, as Meta advises.
Don't go taller than 2:3 on Pinterest, where taller images can get cut off in the feed.
Keep headlines short and check them at phone size, using a model known for clean text.
Disclose AI content where a platform asks, such as TikTok's AI-generated content setting in Ads Manager.
